It was Day #8 of a two week cycling trip with Intrepid Travel, and I had to pinch myself again – I was really cycling in the Atlas Mountains, and experiencing the mindboggling natural beauty of Morocco on two wheels!

Of course, I’m in a very different phase of life now. I’m 36, with a whole range of life experiences under my belt, and plenty of grey strands to bear witness! But I type this while in transit to the US, on an educational pursuit I never imagined I’d undertake.

The weather patterns are all haywire now, but typically the pre-monsoon rains arrive in Goa by early-mid June. However, until the monsoon actually starts towards the end of June, the weather tends to be hot, humid and sticky.

Experience Goa with a different lens: Unlike other seasons, the monsoon is not the time to visit Goa’s beaches. The sea is too rough to swim, and the sun and sand are both soaking wet.

Over a decade ago, when my partner and I coincidentally landed up in Goa during the monsoon, we had no idea we’d be in for such a treat. I have vivid memories of those weeks spent driving around the interiors on our bike,

I didn’t set foot on foreign soil until the age of 13, on a school holiday to the Black Forest in Germany, travelling by coach and ferry. I adored everything about that first trip, from the little things like driving off the ferry on the other side of the road, the strange money and the language,
